Thank you. This was my first time making a full baby. One other time just a baby's face. It was a diffenrt experiance. I liked though and she touched my heart. I might have to make another baby sometime.
I thought her head was a bit on the beefy side. It was tricky to make the crying face too.
Theres alot more talented baby sculptors on e-bay. I really like Camille Allens's she has she cutest little yawns and expressions. Maybe a baby fairy.
The cradle appears sinister becase of the folklore of the elder tree. There was a belif in the old days that if you made a cradle out of elder branches the fairies would pinch your baby to make it cry. So , those wicked fairies are pinching her because of her hapless parents!
At first glance, the baby was sooo cute.
Then I see the cradle, typically the safest place for a weak infant after its mother's arms, and I see its colour, and shape. Apart from the faeries on it, the twists of its lines are nothing but a spell!
Then I read your description, which lightens the impact.
What is true for folklore was once true of mythology.
And what were once gods have been reduced to fairies in the blazing light of the new invading religion, but that's another story.
Seeing this image brought back all the dark promises of danger in the fairytale world.
What an intersting post! Thank you
If you wanted to get an exploded veiw of the symbology you could say that its it a warning. That weve discarded our healthy respect for the powers of nature to undo us. And so this innocent one suffers the consequences.
Powerful, deep and true things get trivialized in modern times. As a fairy sculptor I often make what collectors want a pretty ,glitter drenched being of glamor and delight. Its nice to make people happy and give them something beautiful and escapist, but Im most drawn to the ancient spirit that has a hint of mystery and danger.
