7" fairy waiting for her hair ,wings and clothes. Feeling kinda uninspired right now. Im hoping to find a new kind of otherworldly face. This is cute but not it.

Oh! So cute, did you ever finish her? I like the wide set eyes and think she actually does look otherworldly... maybe not as otherworldly as you want, but still different enough to be considered otherworldly...

How many times can I type that word!

I did finish her up but I like her at this stage. I made her 3mm eyes of solid glass too and was so happy I got a sort of matched pair!

Do you have any images of her finished... I am sure you do, but cannot seem to find any in your galleries. I love getting matching eyes. Every time I make a set and think I get them lined up, I am always WRONG!

She is a pretty little figure!

This is a small bust about 2" long for the head to below the ribcage. An easy quicky project if you want to explore adn idea ahead of time before you try a biggie project. Maybe after the deadline we can compair notes.
Im trying to finihs up some stuff too so I can get back to my goof off projects.

Wow - awesomely skilled. Your stuff always captures my eye. Great style and quality constantly.

The thing I like, is that whilst the face is obviously misproportioned, its obviously deliberate. You can tell because the body is so damn accurate. And thats the sign of real talent!

Keep it up =)

Thank you:) It means alot to ,me! Yes its deliberate. Her body is for a 7" figure and her head would be for a 12" lady standard.

Wow thank you! Im honored that you would be inspired by me:) I want very much for my work to look super real, but also more sublime than real. Some of the body is good, but the hands and feet its very hard when they are so small!

I know what you mean. Sometimes I do as much as I can while it is raw, then after it is cooked, I go in and detail a bit more with a small blade.
Your work is sensitive, and soft. I love the movement and the fact it is real but is sumblime in the fantasy world. Always goregeous!:)

On some of them I make a very simple hand shape, cure then carve it a bit and add things like knuckles and finger nails and cure again. I hate it though. The clay gets soft from the heat of your hands so, sometimes you cant make a hand without ending up with wiggly snake fingers.

Thank you very much! I think for fantasy I like to show a dreamlike whole and have my imagination fill in details. I want the eye to travel to the face or story elements not linger on how every 1/2mm fingernail is manicured perfectly. I cant sculpt a figure shrouded by mist so all I can do is soften what you see to get that feeling. But the super detail is so popular that,Im caving on sticking to that standard.

she looks otherworldly.. like she might bite or kiss you ;)

I like the look, completely original.

Ever since I read an antique book about faeries and such folk I've had to drop my sweetness and light approach.. if they exist what fools we mortals really do appear to be, to be fooled into thinking something that magical and powerful was but a twinkling delight. That and Brian Froud's versions of faeries, they ring much more true to my vision.

And this piece speaks of it exactly!

:) I have to agree after all you had to leave a saucer of milk out or your crops might be blighted! Theyd steal your babies and sicken your animals.

Why exactly should nature spirits like us? Weve done nothing ,but rape and disrespect nature..but we wernt always like that an maybe someday they will come back and except us.

I think the sweet fairies could be glamours...projections to lure children into the woods. People may confuse pixies with fairies.. or they could just be the fancy of people whove never seen a real one.

Curious about this book.Whats it called?

I wish I remembered it's name!

It was an antiquarian book that I picked up to read off the bookshelf at an inn I was staying at and was having trouble sleeping.
I should have written it down. I want to go back there (great area to take a vacation) just to get my hands on the book again.
It was a compilation of old tales about fae folk and such, some it was apparently early reportings of contact with them.
I may actually email the owners of the inn and see if they still have the book!
I would love to have a copy of it!

If I get the name I will let you know.
It really did focus on how they would often steal babies and pull tricks on people, not the la tee da they've been made into.

What a neat way to find a mysterious book! Makes me imagine a story like you return to the Inn and it never exsisted by hudreds of years ago there was an in like that. haha over active imagination here.

I hate that when I cant find a book I want again! Please do Id love it:D

Damn! I just got a reply from the inn, they said they often move their collection of books from room to room and just recently donated 100's of them to a library!
ARGUHHHHHH!!! I'll never see that magical book again!! :sadangel:

Well I know have a very good reason to haunt antiquarian bookshops! I might try googling around and see what comes up.. I never thought at the time how much it could have been an inspirational tool.

I sure do. I am like on a rollercaster with it.
I really like her wide hipped style. It would be great to try some with exagerated pear shapes hip and thigh and tiny ribcages and outerlimbs. Id also like a more alien fairy face ,but still attractive.

a more alien fairy ... youo might try to rotate the eyes slighly and or elongate the mouth

Love the work

what do you mean by rotate the eyes? Abo elongating the mouth do you mean like a snout? Cause I was thining of a face that comes out just a tad with a slope. or do you mean a wider mouth from side to side?

Turn the outer corners of the eyes up

And yes, a wider mouth from side to side or you could go narrower too

The smoothing is sure time consuming isn't it? I often use wet sanding with those fine grain nail polish pads, but I usually mold my sculpts and cast in silicone. I don't know if that much sanding would damage the translucent quality of the sculpy.

I love how much realism you get into your sculpts already :)

Yes thats the part I hate! I use wet dry too an I usualy flunk out before I get to the 1,000 grade.
it doesnt damage the translucent quality, but sometimes too agressive sanding uncovers flaws under the clay surface.
Thank you. I especialy love the veining effect, but I still crave more til they can actauly talk back and breathe.. I guess that will always be there.
